TOTUS Prize

People and institutions, which in a significant way have taken part in promotion of teaching of st. John Paul II or through their actions realize call of Polish Pope to protect dignity of a man, have a chance to be granted the most important prize in catholic Church in Poland – TOTUS awards.

Fundacja “Dzieło Nowego Tysiąclecia” has been granting TOTUS awards since 2000. Winners, so called catholic nobbles, are people who sacrificed themselves to the service of good, beauty and truth, who gave a hand to those who were marginalized by the society. A winner could be a person who shared with his readers, listeners or viewers the words of st. John Paul II. Could be someone who cherishes and promotes Christianity values, the core of our culture and national identity. Not many awards combine so much of work, experience and sacrifice in the name of love of God and others. Therefore, creating a statuette of TOTUS award, Wincenty Kućma gave her an angel’s shape.

One of the originators of this Award was bishop of Radom, Jan Chrapek. After his tragic death in October 2001, during the third edition of award the prizes, there was granted new, “Media TOTUS” award, which was dedicated for significant achievements in the field of media. It is to commemorate the bishop Chrapek and his role in highlighting the person and teaching of John Paul II in the media.
